AVB - More Questions than Answers?

Article by Bruce Wright

am not one of those people that call for a manager to leave at the first sign of trouble, I want us to give our managers time, to build the team they want, back them and then push on. However ever since the news broke that AVB is leaving, I have felt overwhelming relief regarding the situation. Why is that?

Well, whilst I have wanted to support AVB and watch as he built his team, I couldn't help going back to the same questions, time and again:

What is his best 11?
Why does he continue to leave out players that should be on the pitch?
Why on earth did he push Benny out to QPR when we desperately needed a left footer (and not our best centre back) to provide balance?
Why has he allowed Naughton to become one of the most unpopular players at the club?
Why were wingers encouraged to constantly cut in and squeeze the space that our central midfielders and strikers crave?

I just cant get these out of my head and when questioned by other fans I struggled to get make any positive responses as I was constrained by the above.

No, I am not for pushing out managers, but this is the best solution right now for us. We want our flair and pace back and the good news is that we have all of that in our playing staff right now, so long as we get someone in that recognises that and gets us back to playing the football we want. I may be a bit controversial here, but i want the football first, then if we win something that's great. My personal opinion, if he is up for it, would be to offer Hoddle the job til the end of the season and review it from there. Come the summer, there is the potential to knock on Klinsmann's door and possibly others.

Hoddle would give us stability we need and knows the club well, i feel he would be a safe pair of hands and if he looks like he is getting it right then fantastic, no need to look anywhere else.

I am afraid that AVB was put out of his depth. Good luck to him in the future, but that is not with us and that is the releif .........

  1. Absolutely, spot on!! Not too sure about Hoddle though, know he's obviously a legend at the club, but it didn't work last time, why should it this time? Also been out of management since 2006. Think it'll be Sherwood till end of season and then maybe Laudrup or at least someone who likes their teams to play forward attacking football.
