Article by Dean Looney
Spurs fans love a moan, including me, but I have seen Lewis come in for some flack of late. He's "lightweight", "too slow", "too short" too German" etc. Everybody deserves an opinion and mine is that he is a growing lad that will be awesome in the future.
Ok, Eriksson is injured and Soldado's boots seem to be made from clay recently but please let me know if you have seen a better link up man over the last week (apart from Mata!).
Yes, we have drawn against an average United and then won away against teams in the bottom three but take nothing away from those wins, especially the second half performance at Sunderland.
Holtby is tricky, can see a pass. He cost about 3p and he is about 5 years old. Give the guy a break and look at what he brings to the team rather than what he lacks. He was 27.5 x cheaper than Ozil, scored a cracker, has the Germany under 21 Captaincy (They know nothing about football!!) and talks with a weird Northern/German Accent.
That's good enough in my book.
Oh and the guys still not happy because we only beat bottom 3 teams away by one goal. Look at other teams that have struggled and how open it is this year. We are still improving, many teams have hit their peak.
COYS.

Love Lewis Holtby.
ReplyDeleteHoltby is a marvellous player. This is a good Spurs article for a change, not full of 'I know better than the coaches' nonsense. Sunderland looked alright against Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd and Newcastle. Spurs made them look embarrassingly bad.
ReplyDeleteNot that I think he will fail, but 1 goal doesnt change much.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there's too many Holtby haters out there. And if there are, it says a lot about the mindset of those pathetic so-called fans. Holtby's boyish enthusiasm, his energy, commitment, plus willingness to run and fight 100% for the Spurs cause are all highly commendable attributes, and if only the entire squad had that attitude. How can you 'hate' a player like that? You can only love him and embrace his desire to succeed for us.
ReplyDeleteThe worry for Spurs (and this isn't Holtby's fault) is that we're short of creative players in the final third (possibly Eriksen aside and our Tom Carroll on loan) and top heavy in DMs. We need somone who can dictate the tempo of the match, speed up or slow down when necessary, play the cutting pass, bring the wings into play, feed Soldado etc.. Holtby tries to do that and may even get there one day on a consistent level, but presently he is not the answer to our creative shortcomings. He's not slow, he just doesn't see the bigger picture at present, and Dembele and Paulinho are the same. They all have their place in the side, or on the bench, because of other attributes, but we need a Modric character who can link with the power behind and the wingers and forward(s) in front, and we have needed that since the ferret faced one left a year and a half back. I have to also say that our left side has become woeful and contrasts completely with the Bale/BAE flank that terrorized defenses a year or so back. Rotten luck losing Rose, who was shaping up well, but bad management loaning out BAE (his natural replacement). Poor Verts should be commanding the central defense not put out there as LB. Put Chadli or Lamela in front of him and it's unfortunately shown our left flank up as 'pace free' ..and even when Lennon/Townsend play there, inversion is the plan. Talk about a never ending imbalance in an expensively assembled squad! It's been going on for 3 or 4 seasons.
Holtby seems to be a great guy, genuinely likeable, full of enthusiasm and passion for the game, with an endearingly positive attitude. I can't imagine anyone hating Holtby or even disliking him! Having said all of that, the question is whether he is good enough to play the #10 role for a team with regular top 4/Champions League aspirations. On the plus side, he plays with non-stop energy, gets stuck in physically and likes to be involved in the play as much as possible. He certainly can be creative and has some semblance of an understanding with Defoe from their several EL outings together. On the downside, I am not convinced that he really has the natural skill set or athleticism or vision and creativity to play that role, much as I like the guy. However, I definitely feel he deserves the chance to make the position his own. he is still only young, so time will tell if he develops into a genuine top-class player in that position like an Ozil or remains a more limited kind of player, like a Cleverly. Here's hoping it's the former!
ReplyDeleteAgree with the above. He's also a great character to have in and around the dressing room. You can't underestimate that kind of contribution too.
ReplyDeleteDaws, Hotlby, Sandro, all Tottenham through and through..
ReplyDeleteHoltby is a MASSIVE talent. Those of you ONLY going on about his 'character' or 'enthusiasm' are doing the kid a disservice. He has actually played VERY few games as a no10 in the EPL, but when he does, the LAST thing you lot are going to be banging on about is his 'work rate/ability to get stuck in'...DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!
