Tottenham Hotspur v Swansea: Match Preview

Article by Johnny Murwill

Sunday sees Tottenham Hotspur host their first Premier League home game of the season, as Swansea City make their way to White Hart Lane. While Spurs battled to a 1-0 away win over Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season, the Swans were put to the sword at home by 4 ruthless finishes from Manchester United. Both sides come into the game on the back of routs against vastly inferior teams in the Europa League qualifiers, and the match promises intrigue and excitement.

At the time of writing, the rumours surrounding Gareth Bale, Willian and Eric Lamela continue to cloud over proceedings at Spurs, but regardless of outgoing and incoming players, this game is an opportunity for Spurs to build momentum ahead of the North London Derby on September 1st.

Following his man of the match performance against Dynamo Tbilisi, it will be interesting to see if Andros Townsend has earned a starting place in the team, while the battle for midfield places is already heating up following Etienne Capoue’s explosive start to his Tottenham career. Whatever the line-up, Swansea will provide an early test of Tottenham’s character, as well as an indication of whether Spurs are able to improve on their home form from last season.

Possible Line-Ups

Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose

Capoue Paulinho

Reports suggest that Verts has an ankle problem and may not play, so Dawson in for Verts.

Ah fair enough - physioroom doesn't have him down as having a problem. Would be nice to have him back seeing as he was the matchwinner last year!

  3. I think Verts will be fine, just rested to keep him fresh. It was great to see Kaboom back. Just hope the new boys gel quickly, it looks as though they are doing okay.

The midfield competition for places is also going to help that. Let's get above them 'orrible gooners this year and stay there.

Non footy related, I have served my last day in the army this week due to redundancy. Hope the author doesn't mind me plugging my video log on you tube?
