Will-I-Never!!

Article by Chris Mecoy

Hello again, Spurs fans.

Well, we are up and running in the Premier League and it was a pleasing, if somewhat nervous 1-0 win at Selhurst Park on opening day. Not the kind of performance we hope to see our boys managing over the course of the season, but we came away from a potentially tricky game with all 3 points. In fact, what with those poor boys down the road getting humiliated at home, it was pretty much a perfect weekend!!

Now, about time I got to the point of the title of this article, eh? I'm sitting here on my computer, in my Tottenham shirt, a lovely tea in my Tottenham mug, and a cigarette burning away in my Tottenham ashtray, and I'm going out of my Tottenham mind because Charlotte Jackson is babbling on my T.V. behind me about how Sky Sports News will, after the inevitable ad break, be showing an interview with Andre Villas-Boas regarding Gareth Bale's future.

Charlotte, give it a rest, will you?

If you insist on talking about Spurs, why not mention more about our win yesterday, or about the improved performances of Danny Rose and Gylfi Sigurdsson. Maybe comment on the strong performances of Chadli and Paulinho, the strikers instinct of Roberto Soldado, or the quite frankly brilliant cameo from Etienne Capoue. Or, if you insist on talking about transfer speculation, why not discuss the fact that the majority of the newspapers in England and Russia are saying that we have moved ahead of Liverpool (again!) in the race to sign Willian from Anzhi Mac....., Anjhi Mehc...., Anzi Mahki....., that rich Russian team.

Ever since he left the Black Eyed Peas, Willian has become a rather talented footballer. We've been after him for nearly as long as Damiao, and what with the Russian's owner seemingly willing to sell all their best players, he seems a lot more attainable than ever before. My question is, do we have any room for him to sit in our midfield five?

I'm torn here. Yes, he is clearly very good at what he does, but surely we won't be replacing any of our new signings already? Maybe AVB feels Dembele would be the man to step aside, or possibly sticking Nacer out right, Willian out left, with Lennon dropping out. Which, I will admit, I'd be really gutted about. (See an earlier article of mine which confirms my man-crush on good ol' Aaron!!) Whether it be here on e-spurs, on Facebook or even on Twitter, whenever a Spurs fan comments on any positions we need filling, left back is always mentioned. As is Centre Back and another striker. Yet not once have I heard a fellow Yid say we need another man in our central quintet. So, this begs another question. Do we hope these rumours are true, and rejoice in the signing of yet another world class player, or do we scoff at the idea in the belief that £30 million is too much to spend on a man who is not even guaranteed a place in the first eleven?

One thing IS guaranteed though, we have enough quality in our squad, with or
without Willian, and we are in the best position in years (oh, so many years) to
mount a a serious challenge in all the competitions, and if this feel-good factor around White Hart Lane continues, Imma Be(!) the happiest man in the world.

If we can also keep hold of our mercurial Welshman, the Sky is the limit.

There you go Charlotte, I mentioned him too!!

COME ON YOU SPURS!!

    Spot on article.

Have to say Capoue is getting a lot of well deserved mentions in match reports from his 30 minute cameo. I thought he deserved man of the match, he came on, picked up the pace of the game immediately and looked immense. Away from home, with Sandro and him in the middle of the park, it would be difficult for any team to out muscle us...roll on NLD...

Got to say I think Willian would be a great signing. AVB wants to rotate players to keep everyone fresh so this would only go to strengthen our side with no matter who is playing as everyone would be capable of doing the job to get 3 points on the day. I agree though, to really look at making an impact on the top 4, we ideally need two signings at the back and if we keep Bale then another striker would not be needed. COYS

Gareth Bale would not pass a medical whilst he carries an injury once fit he will be sold to RM hence the waiting game. Another reason we will continue to buy nearer the end of the transfer window.

    Come on you spurs
