- Paulinho – No doubt in my mind at all that this move will have nothing but benefits to Spurs and Paulinho himself. In Paulinho, Spurs are getting another Sandro but technically superior and more of a box to box midfielder which means his goal return should exceed his fellow Brazilian, in fact, he has already scored more goals in cup competitions for Spurs than Sandro due to his strike against Tbilisi! Already a firm fans favourite at the Lane, Paulinho should prove to be one of the signings of the summer if he can continue his excellent start, meaning his £17million price tag should prove a snip.Grade: A*
- Nacer Chadli – I was already a big Chadli fan before he signed for Spurs as I had watched him a few times for Twente and was impressed by his powerful running and impressive deliveries. Boasting a decent scoring record for a winger, Chadli will hopefully become another Belgian success in the Premier League like so many of his international teammates. Admittedly he has made a slower start than the likes of Paulinho but this is due to the increased competition on the wings (Lamela, Lennon, Townsend etc.), once Chadli finds his feet, he should prove to be a shrewd acquisition for Spurs.Grade: B+
- Roberto Soldado – Spurs fans were crying out all summer for a predatory striker and Levy and Baldini answered their call with the then record signing of Roberto Soldado from Valencia. I personally wanted Spurs to pick up Soldado before he joined Valencia as I had followed his progress at Getafe and was convinced he could be a success. So far in all competitions, an impressive 4 goals in 4 games means he is currently justifying his signing. However, he was quiet against Arsenal in the NLD but I believe this is due to the fact he is not receiving enough service yet due to the gelling of the new squad and I am sure he will be more involved as the season goes on. Overall, a fantastic signing for Spurs and he could be the striker we have been crying out for since Berbatov’s departure to United.Grade: A
- Etienne Capoue – A complete monster of a player who loves a tackle and going in hard from what I have observed of him so far. Linked with a Premiership move for the past few seasons due to his impressive form for Toulouse, Capoue finally signed for Spurs after rejecting Cardiff due to the fact he believed Spurs could give him the next step up in his career. A France international, Capoue has impressed me from what I have seen of him so far and I was very thankful his injury against Arsenal wasn’t as serious as it looked. Considering Spurs picked up him for less than £10million, he could be another possible bargain buy this season.Grade: A-
- Vlad Chiriches – I honestly don’t know too much about Chiriches except that he is an established Romanian international centre half and is very highly regarded in his native Romania. They believe he could be as good as Christian Chivu which, if true, could turn out to have great benefits for Spurs due to the problems we have at centre half. Caulker was sold to Cardiff, Kaboul still isn’t fully fit and (even though I love the man) Dawson still can be outpaced too easily at times. Chiriches’ style is rumoured to be like Jan Vertonghen, we shall see if he proves to be as big a success as “Super Jan” in his debut season.Grade: B (Purely because I’m not too sure on how good he is)
- Erik Lamela – There will be a lot of pressure on Lamela to hit the ground running at Spurs considering he is now our all time record buy. Personally, I believe we spent so much on Lamela for his potential rather than how good he is at this current point. However, he is still a very experienced player despite only being 21 with seasons with River Plate and Roma already under his belt. He was the breakout star for the club from the Italian Capital last year with 15 goals in 33 games, finishing only 2nd to out and out striker Pablo Osvaldo in goals at Roma. Already an Argentina International, Lamela excites me as a fan and I hope he becomes the player we need him to be this season.
Grade: A - Christian Eriksen – Despite not even making it into our top 3 most expensive signings this transfer window, Spurs fans are completely hyped about Eriksen and rate him as the best signing of our summer. Why? Answer: Because he’s so damn good. I can’t wait to see Eriksen turn out for Spurs, he will be the playmaker and creative link we have so craved since Luka left for Madrid. The fact that we managed to get him for £11.5 million when Chelsea paid over double that for Willian is a testament to Levy and Baldini’s negotiating skills. I hope Eriksen carries over the form he had for Ajax. If he does, we could have a potential world class player on our hands.
Grade: A*
Best Buy: Eriksen - £11.5 million
Best Sale: Bale- £85.3 million (Purely because it is a miracle we got so much)

Paulinho, Capoue and Chadli are average players who don't fit in with the Tottenham style or traditions of playing entertaining, skilful football.
ReplyDeleteThe other four players were good signings.
all the players purchased are good acquisitions and I don't understand how anyone is not impressed with Paulinho an d Capoue but Chadli will come good with Gametime. really looking forward to seeing Eriksen and Lamella start against Norwich .COYS
ReplyDeleteI remain puzzled at the loaning of BAE as despite a glut of signings we do not appear to have strenghthend the left back position. Danny Rose is improving but for me lacks certain defensive qualities and Kyle Naughton is not ready yet.Switching Jan Verthongen doesn't make sense. We've missed a crucial signing that could prove costly.
