Just a quick run-down….
Hello friends. Are we
all feeling a little bit better today, knowing that we did not have
to scramble around for last minute signings? I know I feel great as I
can say, without any doubt, that we had the best window of all the
teams in the league while our red neighbours dropped an absurd amount
of money for a luxury signing, all to appease the mob that is the
fans of Arsenal. We signed no less than 6 full internationals,
Soldado being the one that isn’t picked often as Spain like that
whole 4-6-0 formation, and now it is just a matter of time before we
start the beat downs. But with every sunny day, there is that one or
two clouds that cause a few moments of sadness, these moments
consisted of hearing about Benny and Tom Carroll going on loan to QPR
to play under that master tactician, Harry Redknapp.
Diary
of a Douchebag
Readers
of my work know of my hatred towards this man as he conveniently
forgot our loyalty towards him in his darkest hour, pimping himself
out for a chance to sip from the poisoned chalice known as the
England job while we capsized. I do not like his arrogance, I do not
like his lack of tactical awareness, and I do not like anything about
this man as he is nothing more than a used car salesman to me. This
may offend some people, but just like mine is an opinion, so is yours
and everyone has one. I would take AVB’s foot over ever seeing
Harry back at the Lane unless it was as an opposing manager on the
receiving end of a 5 nil thrashing, which I am sure he will be
sometime this year as he will again pimp himself out to the first PL
club to sack their manager.
I Heart
Benny and Tom
Anyway, Benny going there is sad as I love the guy with his nonchalant attitude and admittance that football is nothing more than a job. Such honesty in any industry is rare, but I do wish him the best for his career. He will always be welcomed back to the Lane. Carroll, on the other hand, should not have to drop down to the Championship and be forced to play in the same side that employs thugs and scumbags such as Joey Barton, Karl Henry and Richard Dunne. I find it hard to believe that a kid with so much talent and potential could not get 20-30 matches playing at Crystal Palace or Fulham. Hell, even Stoke would have been a better choice than dropping into a league that is clearly not up to his standard. I hope it works out and he comes back even more composed and polished, but I have been wrong before. He is a future monster and I cannot wait to see him back in Lilywhite.
Transfer
Summary
7 players in while
only one real starter out. A net loss of about £5 mil while
improving all areas of the squad including adding depth, quality and
flexibility. The club and Daniel levy played an absolute blinder this
summer and I am ecstatic about the idea of this squad’s potential
and how cohesive and dangerous it will be in a few short weeks. AVB
has been given the keys to a ’67 Corvette and after a tune up and
oil change, this baby will be purring.
I
love Capoue and am so glad to hear it is only a sprain and that he
will be only out for about a month. Sandro and the “French Tank”
give us the meanest set of defensive midfielders in the PL, maybe
Europe. Soldado is the goods, we just have to all get on the same
page and start providing him with real service and not just aimless
crosses into the box. Paulinho will be star in the PL as he has a
motor I have only seen in two other PL players; Michael Essien and
Ramires, both of whom are great players, capable of controlling a
match. Chadli is very good at beating his man and getting into
dangerous positions, but it will take a bit of time to get an
understanding with his teammates and I am sure as soon as everything
has settled down and the training sessions start progressing, he will
show the naysayers why we brought him in. “Coco” Lamela, Vlad and
Eriksen are all quality and will show the rest of the world why we
had no problem letting Gareth go while letting a certain fickle set
of fans know that you can buy class without overspending. Even with
all these great young players brought in, the best signing was a man
with silver in his hair, a brilliant man named Franco Baldini.
Without him, we would not have been able to attract the players we
did and would be stuck with Carlton Cole and a bunch of other scrubs
not worthy of ever donning the famous Lilywhite of Tottenham. Grazie
Franco!
Tactical
Flexibility
What I am most excited for is the flexibility when it comes to personnel and possible formations that AVB can choose from. He is known for his preferred 4-3-3, but is flexible in changing to a 4-2-3-1, 4-4-2, 4-4-1-1 or even some 3 man defensive formations. Looking over Twitter this morning, one of my fellow Spurs fans suggested a 3-5-1-1 with a back 3 of Jan, Vlad and Kaboul, Walker/ Lennon and Townsend/ Chadli as wingbacks, Sandro/ Capoue, Holtby/ Siggy and Dembele/ Paulinho in the midfield 3, with Eriksen playing off Soldado. Now, I don’t know if this guy was watching me play PES the other day, but that was my exact formation and the one that I have the most success with. I am not saying the PES represents real life but this formation could work against squads who are susceptible to the counter, squads such as Chelsea, Liverpool or Swansea who like to hold the ball for long periods of time. Let them bring men forward and then hit ‘em with a lighting counter using the speed on our flanks and creativity provided by Eriksen, Holtby or Siggy. Just a thought, but a good one at that.

Review
Still
have yet to see the entirety of the match but from what people are
telling me, it was nothing special. No cohesion and no speed of play,
instead a slow, methodical plan which was meant to frustrate the
opposition. Instead, it allowed them to go into full counterattack
mode and take advantage of a major mistake by our club captain and
walking liability, Michael Dawson, playing Walcott onside while
everyone else pushed up. The guy has heart, but I think Vlad will
soon be third choice, pushing Daws back to the fourth spot. The last
20 minutes we started camping out in the final third without really
troubling them, mind a deflected shot from Defoe or a few Lamela runs
into the box. One of these runs by our young Argentinian was picked
out by a nicely chipped ball from Defoe, only to see Coco take a shot
from a bad angle instead of laying it off to a wide open Defoe at the
top of the box. A missed opportunity but things will be fine as soon
as the players start training with each other and learning their
tendencies. Lots of crosses were plumped into the box near the end
which would be good if they were able to beat the first man or if
they were sent in from better positions. A loss that one could say
was deserved as we really didn’t offer much going forward due to
our laboured attack. No biggie, the creativity will be coming soon.
Final
Thoughts
A very exciting time
has begun down at White Hart Lane. We now possess some of the best
young talent in the league as well as one of, if not the most
brilliant directors of football while keeping our core of quality
intact except for one Welshman. Spurs are on the up and I am thanking
my lucky stars that I made a decision long ago to support a small,
dignified club in the hamlet of Tottenham with a history of
greatness. Somewhere in heaven, on the sidelines of a pitch in the
clouds, looking down on the progression of his beloved Spurs, Bill
Nicholson is smiling.

I would love to be a couple of feet behind the spanner that wrote this drivel while he told Ritchie Dunne that he is a thug/scumbag,anyway good luck to the spurs you look like you are going to need it.
ReplyDeletewe did not buy a striker i would of like to of seen edurado vergas here but is it time for souleymane coulibaly to play a part this season
ReplyDeleteozil is better than all spurs signings put into one. mind the gap totters it just got bigger
ReplyDeleteThey will need time but I think they can achieve alot. Bearing in mind they have only just got together. We controlled the midfield at the emirates. Ozil is a wonderful signing and they will be stronger but we need to be targeting top 3 not 4. Chelsea and city are our targets.
ReplyDeleteHello Matt,
ReplyDeleteI really admire your views on the goings on over the last 2 months, and I'd love to share your optimism for this Season, but I would like to offer a different point of view.
I feel extremely on edge about the coming season at White Hart Lane. Last year the team played good possession football without creating many chances. Siggy and Dembele didn't offer much for assists or goals.
On Sunday against Arsenal and even more worrying the two games prior we played exactly the same as we did all last Season without Bale. We all remember the couple of games we played without him in the league when he was injured in the micky mouse euro cup. We seriously struggled and we were shown up as a one man team. Lots of huff n puff and no goals.
As you kindly put it the used car salesman, who if you have forgotten pulled us out of the pits and took us to our first and only Champions League outing. Harry gave us attacking flair which for me is what Spurs stand for.
I do remember what happened in his last season and again we let the scum finish above us in the league. Having said that you should show more respect for Harry he did a great job for us and we wouldn't be where we are now if it not for him. Regardless of anyone's opinion.
Were playing extremely negative football at times under AVB and the only thing you could admire about him last year was giving Gareth Bale that free role. Allowing him to run at entire teams and smashing in last minute wonder goals. I'm actually an AVB fan but only due to being a Spurs fan also.
Now please don't take me for a negative, I'm just trying to raise the issue, I think were not as good as Man U Man City and Chelsea and we have no chance of breaking into top 3. So lets now be honest it is between Spurs Arsenal and Liverpool for top 4 this year.
Daniel Levy has done a tremendous job bringing players in knowing Bale would be leaving us. I do rate the signings we have made especially Soldado and Erikson he is real class. I don't see much difference between him and Ozil definitely not 31m. Erikson and Lamela will be our creative options this season. I see Lamela is a promising player but is he going to be overwhelmed playing in the premier league and be totally out of his depth. The 30m price tag could end up being one of the worst transfer blunders in english football or he will be a Bale mark 2 and be a huge success... time will tell. We have also targeted non Champions League players (other than Erikson)like it was on a checklist criteria.
To sum things up It will be a three way for 4th this Season between Spurs Arsenal and Liverpool. I would love to offer you huge optimism and predict we will finish above Arsenal this year but we haven't for 16 years and who is to say it wont be 17. The other thing to throw in the mix and I know we all like to laugh at Liverpool but they will be contenders this year. Like Brenden Rogers they are in much better shape.
So here it is without Gareth Bale (who is worth every penny by the way) we could continue to play like we did all last season. I hope the players do click and we do take the league by storm this year. I unfortunately see a potential 5th or 6th looming for us in a very frustrating season without Bale.
Ahead of us soon will be AVB v Mourinho and it will be interesting to say the least. Hopefully the little one wont get in AVB's head and mug us off twice this year. I do feel very worried we may actually take a step back this year before going forward as a team. I suggest the lads get the KY out and start gelling!!
Thanks,
Jake
Jake that's the longest comment iv seen. Personally I think we have a squad that can get 4 th. I think ozil is not enough for what arsenal needed. Cracking signing though. Pretty soon we will be calling them team ozil. We will still finish above them though
ReplyDeleteWe have broken even on transfers this year and you can say we wont be a one man team now. If we had kept Bale and Levy had made an actual investment we could have been in for the title. Now were going to be scrapping for 4th with Arsenal and Liverpool with these three finishing in any order. I hope it is a wise move but we could end up looking like idiots. I really hope this is the right choice and it works out but I will be looking to be surprised rather than expect this year. Missing Bale already :(
ReplyDeleteJake
I really like how all the keyboard warriors talking bout how we are going to suck post as anonymous. Jake is the only real person here, even if I completely disagree. I like AVB, that's my opinion. I hate Harry, again, my opinion. He took a team that should be in the CL and brought us there once yet blew countless other chances for greatness. Lost at Wembley to Pompy and Chelsea, blew leads at Arsenal and Chelsea, never rotated players so they wore down by March, but again, my opinion to not like him. Its three games into the season. Are we really going to pass judgement already? And as for the Arsenal fans who are posting, glad to see you have to post at a Spurs website to make yourself feel good. Your words ring with anger and fear, don't worry though, we will help you out by maybe loaning you Jake Livermore next season when we take your CL spot. And Ozil? He's just passing through on the way to City. Cheers peeps!
ReplyDeleteJake is a realist in that time will only tell if the new players will click together. My only concern is that we have invested in one quality striker,if he is injured we are stuck with the usual suspects and they are simply not good enough. That i am afraid will be our undoing, and as much as I hope I am wrong, this season will be one of gelling as a team but not getting into the top 5 0r 6.
ReplyDeleteI take objection to you calling Richard Dunne a thug or a scumbag!
