SPURS AMBITION Satisfies Erikson, Ossie Ardiles raves about Lamela and England U21 call ups.
Christian Erikson, 21, described Spurs as, “The whole package,” to Danish newspaper BT implying that they were always first choice in his mind.
"It was the whole package that attracted me. I spoke briefly with the manager and my impression is that he is a very good manager. The goal is to challenge for the title. That is what the club wants and that is what I want."
Tireless Tottenham were relentless in their pursuit of the Danish dynamo and have certainly reinforced their title aspirations with an assortment of high profile players.
When asked on where he would fit in at Spurs he said:
"From the conversations I have had, they have indicated that they see me as an attacking midfielder, a creative player."
Many Tottenham fans argue that Modric or Van der Vaart were never replaced leaving a hole in that all important creative midfield position.
Erikson could prove to be the final piece of the jigsaw with many tipping him to set the Premier League alight.
Spurs legend, Ossie Ardiles, has paid tribute to the prospective Gareth Bale replacement, Erik Lamela.
He is not short on superlatives when talking about the potential impact of the young Argentine:
"He’s a brilliant player. Of all the really top players Tottenham have bought for this season, he is the one that excites me the most."
As a keen follower of Lamela’s career, Ardiles reckons that Roma’s star of last season has found his spiritual home at Spurs:
"And not at all becomes he too comes from Argentina! It’s simply because of the way he plays. He’s a different type of player; to my mind a real Spurs player."
If Lamela performs half as well as Bale did last season, it is likely that Tottenham can expect to compete against any side.
Spurs’ young lions will look to impress in the upcoming European U21 Championships against Moldova on Thursday and Finland away next Monday.
Tom Carroll, Harry Kane and Zeki Fryers were called up and are all set to feature in these fixtures.
Tottenham also have young goalkeeper, Jordan Archer, featuring in the Scotland squad who will face Holland in a qualifier.
So Spurs look like an excellent candidate for the “Dark Horse” contender of the season, at 22/1 it certainly looks like an attractive option.
