FA STATEMENT Considers Y-WORD as Offensive:

A STATEMENT from the FA has considered “Yid” chants as offensive to the general public and has called for fans to avoid using it in any situation.

The message was released on Monday following intense debate regarding the historical and contemporary usage of the term, with many condemning it either way.

The FA has decided that the word “Yid” will now be treated as inappropriate in a football setting, making their stance clear on the matter.

The controversial evolution of the word is the source of this scrutiny as many in the Tottenham area adopted the word as a form of defence against anti-Semitism.

“The FA is aware that there are sections of fans at certain clubs who describe themselves using the term, or variants of the term, ‘Yid’. Those fans claim that use of the term is a ‘badge of honour’ and is not intended to be offensive.”

“Nevertheless, its use is still liable to cause offence to others, whether Jewish or not.”

“Also, by using the term in this manner, fans may be clouding the issue by making it harder to differentiate its use by these fans and by those who use the term in an intentionally offensive manner.”

“Further, use of the term in a public setting could amount to a criminal offence, and leave those fans liable to prosecution and potentially a lengthy Football Banning Order.”

Tottenham were quick to reply to the statement and subsequently promoted the intentions of the FA to tackle this sensitive issue.

“We recognise that this is a complex debate and that, in the interests of encouraging a positive and safe environment for all supporters, consideration should be given to the appropriateness and suitability of its continued use.”

“We are already in the process of engaging with our fans and shall be consulting more widely in due course.”

Interesting developments should follow as the issue of racism in football drives full tilt into one of the more sensitive and less touched upon subjects in British culture.

Walker Apologises:

Andre Villas Boas admitted that Kyle Walker failed in his responsibility to set an example as a role model after a nitrous-oxide incident.

However, Villas-Boas was pleased to see the youngster apologise for inhaling the “laughing gas” on a night out as he assumed his responsibilities.

“The player has assumed the responsibility of having failed to set an example, which I think is something that is honourable, but you wouldn't expect him to do it again,"

“He accepted the responsibility of having failed as a role model towards young people and I don't think we will see the incident again.”

“He has assured me before (that he won't do it again).”

Walker will need to pick up his performances along with his attitude after receiving a large amount of stick from his performance for England against Ukraine.

British Talent Can Succeed at Tottenham:

British youngsters have a fighting chance with Spurs according to Danny Rose as he believes that the new regime has allowed Andros Townsend and himself an opportunity to impress.

“With myself, he [Villas-Boas] watched me a few times when I was out on loan last season, and he's noticed my hard work. Andros and I especially are over the moon that we've been given a chance.”

Talk has been rife about the lack of young British talent playing for top teams week in week out, but not at Spurs.

Tottenham also have some other decent prospects currently out on loan who may benefit from a similar integration to the squad, not least a certain Tom Carroll.

Abdebayor Dropped to the Reserves:

Emmanuel Abdebayor has been thrown into the reserves on his return from Africa after being granted compassionate leave following the death of his brother.

It remains to be seen whether his head is right at the moment and AVB concluded that, for now at least, he will remain with the reserves.

“Up to when I find it appropriate, he will train with the development team.”

The Togolese front man struggled last season and has fallen further down the pecking order since Spurs signed the Spanish superstar, Roberto Soldado.
