Still waiting for real football…

Only two days until real football returns and this writer could not be happier. These past 10 days have been an absolute bore fest even with the clinching of World Cup berths for my preferred two nations, the United States and Italy. To be honest, neither country had any real doubt but at least last night was fun watching a second string American side beat up a once powerful Mexican side. Dos e cero? Yup, again the Americans beat Mexico in Columbus, OH by a score of 2 nil, which was wonderful as this writer cannot stand the Mexican side due to a bad experience at a Gold Cup match between the two sides which resulted in the women in my group being verbally assaulted by drunken Mexicans. Anyway, let’s see how our internationals fared.

Hugo and his French side beat Belarus by a score of 4-2 where the French captain clearly was not at his best. It mattered little though, as his compatriots finally knocking the ball into the back of the net and are now tied with Spain for the group lead.

Iceland managed a hard fought 2-1 victory over Albania where Gylfi struck the post early in the match and was influential as his side moved up to second in their group. Quite the accomplishment for such a small nation and although almost impossible to qualify as group winners, they are in prime position to lock second place and go into a playoff.

Christian Eriksen and Denmark ground out a 1 nil win in an extremely tight affair in Armenia. With the three points, Denmark now sits in third place in their group behind already qualified Italy and second place Bulgaria. The good news is that his Danish side face Italy, which will be sending out a more experimental side as his group has already booked their tickets, and then Malta in the final matchday.

VladChiricheş and his Romanian side lost by a scoreline of 2 nil at home to Turkey. The good news is that his side has two matches left against beatable opponents while the other countries in the group above Romania have to play each other.

Erik Lamela was an unused substitute as his Argentina side beat Paraguay, 5-2. Messi scored a brace, shock I know, and win the victory, Argentina have secured a place in Brazil next year.

In Other News

So I hear that Andre doesn’t fancy us as title winners this year. He says that the squad is mostly new and that it will take some time to gel. I agree that the squad will take some time before they start firing on all cylinders but I like our chances in an open Premier League. The mind games have begun!

More fallout from the Nitrous Oxide and Mr. Walker as with his poor performance in the Ukraine, combined with the news of his “hippy crack” fun has made Kyle quite the target for angry journalists. Many are singling him out for a performance which was far from his best, but in a system that is about as modern and progressive as a Coelacanth, the entire team was set up not to lose, which they didn’t but no wants to point fingers at the lazy, slow midfield that allowed the Ukrainian players plenty of time on the ball. Instead let’s find a guy who is young and talented but has been in the news lately and say how it’s his fault England sucks, which they do. Proper English journalism.

It’s been a kinda slow day for news so that should be about that. Thanks for reading everyone

  1. Finally!
Agree with you wholeheartedly, cannot wait for the football season to recommence. Curious to see how the spurs side would grow and gel over the next few matches, like arsene wenger said, they might just click very quickly, it happens, and if does it would be a wide open premier league this season, I also expect Man City to improve as well, similar issues with all the new players they brought in.
