We’ll
say what we want
The
heated debate about the use of the word “Yid” is back in play, Champions League
returns and more praise for our Great Dane. It has been a wild few days at
Spurs with a comfortable win on Saturday against Norwich City made possible by
some great performances from Christian Eriksen, Gylfi Sigurðsson and our full backs, quickly followed up with more wonderful
insight from the FA about Spurs calling ourselves “Yids” and then finally, the
greatest sports anthem returns to us with the start of the Champions League
group stage. Let’s kick it off with a final recap of Saturday’s match.
Thoughts from Afar
The
praise of our newest signing, Christian Eriksen, has continued and been picked
up by all major media outlets with the Danish playmaker being considered a “masterstroke
of business”, a “shrewd acquisition by Levy” or simply, “a wonderful move for
Tottenham”. I like the latter but all three statements are accurate. No need to
go into much further detail about his fine performance but I think the love in
for Eriksen has overshadowed a dismantling of a tricky foe by the entire squad.
After watching the match again, I can honestly say the only few things I saw
that made my bite my nails was the Lloris incident late in the match and the
dribble by Elmander early in the first half. Other than that, the lads made it
look like they never even needed to get out of 3rd gear.
Government Backing?
So
I hear that Prime Minister David Cameron has told a local paper that Tottenham
and their fans should be allowed to chant “Yid” and should be allowed to
identify themselves as “Yids”.
Direct from the
Prime Minister, “There's a difference between Spurs fans self-describing
themselves as Yids and someone calling someone a Yid as an insult. You have to
be motivated by hate. Hate speech should be prosecuted - but only when it's
motivated by hate”.
I agree with
this 100%. The real problem, which the FA seems to forget about, is that other
classless club supporters (Chelsea, West Ham, Lazio) like to refer to us as
“Yids” in a negative light but still get away with it. Our fans get persecuted,
subjected to incredibly racist chants, and get attacked for no other reason
than the perception that we are of Jewish decent, yet the FA feels that we
should not use a specific word. Once again, the FA has completely missed the
point of this and regardless of what they say, we will continue to use it as
our history and the historical use of this term is something that cannot be
changed.
The Champions!
Just
hearing the first notes of this anthem gets my heart rate pumping faster than
seeing Nicki Minaj in a skimpy bikini which is way too revealing while holding
a giant mug of Delirium Tremens and asking if I could help her apply some
tanning lotion to her hard to reach areas. Yup, that is what goes on in my
head, awesome right? I’ll save that thought for later, but I digress, the
Champions League has returned and although we are not part of it this term, it
still is the most entertaining sports competition in the world. Better than the
World Cup and Euro tournaments, more exciting than bowl season for college
football and even wilder than the final stages of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the
Champions League is the epitome of beauty.
This season,
like every CL season, I pick a team or two that I will follow and root for so
again, like last term, I will be going for Juventus and Dortmund for different
reasons. Juve for the family as we have roots in northern Italy and Dortmund
simply due to the intelligence and charismatic influence JurgenKlopppossesses.
Both teams are fun to watch as well with great players of insane levels of
quality such as Andrea Pirlo, Gigi Buffon, Robert Lewandowski and İlkay Gündoğan, all players who are able to make me shout at the screen, “How’d
he do that?”. The fun has begun!

Jermain
Defoe has taken to the press by expressing his concerns about his lack of
playing time in a World Cup year. Well Jermain, I don’t think it really matters
as Roy Hodgson is not concerned with scoring goals and allows you to warm the
bench until the last 5 minutes, so I don’t understand his gripe. Also, it would
not surprise me in the least to see the overrated English side not even make it
to the tournament as they play like crap. Does Jermain
think that he will push Roberto Soldado to the bench or force AVB to play with
two strikers? That sound you may have just heard was me falling off my chair
laughing. Be happy with what you have Jermain, you are part of one of the
better clubs in England and are still able to get plenty of playing time between
the Europa League and substitute appearances. Now fall in line and shut the
hell up, big mouth.
Keeping
with the diminutive striker, he has questioned AVB’s decision to send Adebayor
to train with the kids and developmental squad when he returns from compassion
leave. Oh I’m sorry Jermain, good idea, throw Ade right back in the mix so he
doesn’t have his fitness levels up to the rest of the squad and without the
proper time to get his head right after losing his brother. Real solid thoughts
going on upstairs, Defoe. Again, shut up and keep your stupid opinions to
yourself as Andre can always use Harry Kane as his number 2 striker instead of
you, Mr. Ingrate.
Other
than that, not too much to report. Enjoy the day and watch plenty of football,
let’s hope a certain Madrid based team as well as two Manchester based clubs
get beat.
Thanks for reading! COYS!!!
as much as I love Defoe, I agree with you 100% on the shut the hell up bit. he will get time to play, he doesn't need to talk to the press all the time. and the bit about adebayor, im 100% sure that if AVB felt he was ready to join the team he would let him. actually I read an article where he was quoted as saying that he would join in when he is ready. and another article where adebayor said the same. so Defoe should just concentrate on himself.
