Debate Heats Up, AVB Criticises Packed Fixtures, Eriksen Says Spurs
Can Win the Title and Pato Turned Down Offers.
Y-WORD Debate Heats Up:
Peter Herbert, human rights lawyer, has added fuel to the fire on the Y-word debate following David Cameron’s speech yesterday, which defended the usage of “Yid” by calling it a “badge of honour”.
Herbert, chairman of The Society of Black Lawyers, was furious at the Prime Minister’s words on the issue and believes that more must be done.
He said: “David Cameron, luckily, is not in charge of the Crown Prosecution Service or the Metropolitan Police, therefore these decisions are not his to make,”
“These comments are like saying that I actually condone anti-semitism or racism. It's no better than that, and it doesn't get any better just because you're the Prime Minister saying it.”
“What we're concerned about is the impact on the victim and that is an offence under the Public Order Act 1986, whatever Mr Cameron thinks.”
“So we really have to understand the fact that people in the Jewish community, not all of them, and certainly many people in the wider community black and white, have a real problem being on the receiving end of these comments.”
“Football is a part of society and not separate from it, so the Prime Minister has to really think what he is saying because he legitimises anti-semitism and that is a sad thing for any parliamentarian to do.”
“You cannot have people breaking the criminal law on Saturday afternoon and saying it is okay because we have a badge of honour.”
AVB Criticises Packed Fixtures:
Andre Villas-Boas has criticised the packed fixture list and feels that his squad could succumb to injury because of the scheduling.
The home tie against Tromso in the Europa League is on Thursday, with a trip to Cardiff for Super Sunday topping off with Aston Villa on Tuesday for the Capital One Cup third round.
He said: “After this game (against Tromso) we have not only the Sunday game but the Tuesday game, which I found as an incredible surprise,”
“How can the game be scheduled after two days? This is putting the players' career at risk and the risk of injuries.”
“I can understand the reasons why our game against Aston Villa for the Capital One Cup was chosen to be on Tuesday, bearing in mind the other fixtures, but I find it absolutely incredible that we have to risk injuries to our players in a game we play on that Tuesday.”
“This amount of fixtures forces us to make some changes in the team, but we take the competition very seriously and we will be very strong.”
Pato Turned Down Offers:
Alexandre Pato revealed that he had received several offers during the transfer window, and according to reports in Brazil, one of them was from Tottenham.
The Former AC Milan striker has been on decent form this season for Corinthians and is 8th in the rankings for the golden boot this year.
He said: “I received offers, they called Corinthians, sent a fax, to sign me in the window, but I sat down with the staff, talked with my agent and I told them I wanted to stay,”
“I wanted to help Corinthians fight for a place in Libertadores.”
Lighter News:
In lighter news, a man was caught in Tottenham training ground trying to have sex with a sheep, according to the London Evening Standard.
The IT worker appeared in court and has allegedly denied the charges and asked to be tried by a jury.
He was granted bail on the condition that he does not revisit Whitewebbs Lane or Archers Wood in Enfield.
