And so it’s time to bring up “Defoe Watch #243” and whether he will be staying at the Lane or heading overseas for a big payday. Defoe himself has finally spoken out about the potential of a move to MLS club Toronto FC, stating that the entire ordeal is out of his control.
“It’s out of your hands, sometimes you end up leaving a club where you want to stay and sometimes you get in the team of a club you think you are leaving, you end up playing well and stay.”
With January less than a month away, we will know one way or the other what will happen. However, Defoe does seem to want to stay put. MLS pundits have reiterated that Defoe will have zero chance at a potential England spot for the upcoming World Cup if he moves, but it must be asked if he would find a place anyway, given the lack of games he’s played this season so far. Thankfully, his opportunities to prove himself do seem to be increasing.
Defoe has been given a chance to take some control over his situation. His two starts in subsequent matches have been decent. No goals, but the number to chances have left many of us pulling out our hair. It seems only a matter of time that he will convert again and show his quality that we know he possesses.
So, it comes down really to what Tottenham needs in January and whether Defoe becomes a piece than can be moved for some needed transfer cash. Right now, he’s hands down the second choice striker, but with stock that is slowly growing. Does AVB have fair in Adebayor to stand in this place? Going down to a couple strikers could leave Spurs in a precarious position.
I still think it’s a year early for Defoe to consider the MLS to extend his career. He has shown his quality in the Europa League and is finally getting the chance he needs to prove himself in the EPL, which he won’t want to throw away. It’s likely that January will pass and this will be much ado about nothing…until the next window.

You'd best have a bash at playing well then. If your recent insipid performances are anything to go by, I'll row you to Canada in a canoe myself. I frankly can't wait to see the back of you.
ReplyDeleteCan I help you to row, maybe we can get there faster
DeleteThank fxxk hes gone....the most useless cxxt i,ve ever seen in a Tottenham shirt...thats forty years !! BYE BYE GOOD RIDDANCE
ReplyDeleteSlagging of Defoe? The guy's been gold for Tottenham down the years. When he was sold to Pompey and getting regular football, he scored a fair few goals. Before he moved to Tottenham he was scoring for West Ham too. He's never been proper first choice at spurs and for that reason has never had a 20 goal season, which he has in him. I'm hoping he stays at Tottenham until he retires.
ReplyDeleteHe was first choice for the bulk of last season and started with a flourish and then did naff all for the best part of the end of the year, City game aside. He wasted three glorious chances against Sunderland, was ineffective against Fulham and was a passenger against West Ham earlier in the season.
ReplyDeleteYes, he has had great games, but I can't think of any in the last year. Time to move on, retaining players based on past performances is all good and well, but if we want to move on as a club, we can't be sentimental. He serves a purpose for the early stages of the Europa League, early rounds of the cup but that's it.
ARE U IN A MENTAL HOME WHERE THEY NEVER SHOW ANY FOOTBALL....HE IS SHIT...30 attempts to score one goal..never passes, scores one goal then shouts his mouth off...never does anything for the rest of the team..only good for 20 minutes,,,thats why he was sold. UTTER RUBBISH...if you think hes GOLD...what the fxxk do u think of Messi....maybe u have very low standards and are married to a fat munta ??
ReplyDeleteCORRECT >>>NEVER FIRST CHOICE COS U DONT SEE HIM TOUCH TH EBALL FOR THE WHOLE GAME
ReplyDeleteYes please, with any luck JD will see us working together to achieve a desired result and learn that being a team player is beneficial!
ReplyDeletehe's the first to bitch about not scoring goals yet in today's game in EPL everyone moves off the ball , you have to or you dont get an opportunity to score. With clever passers
ReplyDeletePaulino, Erikson , Holtby .........Defoe can no longer do it , hence no goals
Bye Bye Defoe, when you see how many goals are scored by top Strikers and the see what Defoe has done over the years, you realize that he was never going to be a top Striker. I've been a Spurs supporter since the mid forties and will be pleased to see the back of him. COYS
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't quite agree with how aggressively he is been slaughtered on here I have to admit the time has come for him to go. We will not make top four with him as our number 9,give Soldado the service Defoe received against Sunderland and watch the goals come. If we can sell Defoe and bring in Hernandez I will be a happy Spurs fan this Christmas. COYS
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised there is so much venom towards Defoe here... he's been a loyal servant and scored shit loads of goals for us over the years. He was unlucky against Sunderland hitting the post twice. Seems like most people here don't know fcuk all about football or Tottenham... if you ever go to a game at The Lane and I doubt anyone here ever has you can hear his name being sung even when he's on the bench. People on these comments would be better off supporting another team rather than venting spew at Defoe, bunch of wankers.
ReplyDeleteWell said defoe is a yido he love the club and we love him at the lane i want him to stay for many years and i still think adebayor can do a job too for us
DeleteI think its sad that we expect loyalty from players such as Bale, Modric, Berbatov etc, yet some morons on here show none in return to a player who has been Spurs through and through for most of his career.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, if he does go I'm sure he'll find a home elsewhere in the Prem before having to resort to Toronto
Good lad but ultimately not good enough to be the Spurs main striker. Great option as a sub but if he has to leave then so be it.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to him!
Against Sunderland second half the whole team moved forward and got involved except Naughton who needs a sat nav to pass forwards! The point I am making and have done for months is that no matter who is up front unless the team move forward they dont see the ball. All these muppets with their capital letters slagging off Jermaine know nothing about football and probably only go to whl to let off steam and avoid domestic abuse. Sad people..
