Liverpool down yet dangerous

Article by Jono Myers @jonodmyers

It’s one of the few games in the football calendar that I personally dread. I couldn't even tell you exactly why, I just don't find the trip to Anfield pleasant. However, maybe a couple of bad results in recent years haven’t helped the cause.

Liverpool are on a poor run of form to say the least, so that’s perfect timing for us to come along and help them out of their rut. Jurgen Klopp’s side will be looking to forget last weeks horror in Hull and work to climb back into the top 4 against Spurs.

Liverpool are currently 5th, 1 point off Arsenal in 4th, and have not won in the league since the 31st December 2016. Their last victory was 1-0 at Anfield against Manchester City. Since that fixture Liverpool have drawn away at Sunderland 2-2, as well as drawing 1-1 against United at Old Trafford and a recent 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea. They've also lost 3-2 at home to Swansea and as mentioned before, lost to Hull 2-0.

Tottenham Hotspur sit 2nd in the league, 4 points clear of Liverpool. Spurs head to Anfield off the back of a 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough. A second half Harry Kane penalty saw off our relegation fighting visitors last Saturday evening. Spurs have won 3 of their last 5 league games. Seeing off the likes of Chelsea, West Brom and Boro. Whilst also drawing to City and Sunderland away from home. Danny Rose, Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela still remain out for Spurs. Kieran Tripper could be in with a chance of returning for Saturdays fixture.

If Spurs pull off a win at Anfield and Burnley overcome Chelsea on Sunday, Tottenham can close the gap between first and second down to just 6 points. Making it not so easy for Chelsea as we near the final stretch of the season!

  1. I've always dreaded Spurs games as they also play like Liverpool so this will be a tough one. Liverpool have done well against the top 6 this season so I'm hoping we can rise up to the occasion....before dropping down again next week. :(
