And the saga continues….
No Swan Song Needed
Let’s start by saying that 6 points from two matches, regardless how they were earned, feels really awesome. Some may say, "yeah, but we haven’t scored enough/ no goals from open play/ no real creativity" and to these I just say, "6 points from 2 matches". Works for me. Look at it this way, we have not fully clicked as the high level of turnover from last season to this one resulted in some attacks breaking down or passes being misdirected, yet still we were able to grind out two wins against stubborn opposition. I will gladly take 1 nil wins all season as long as it results in glory at the end. Maybe that’s just the Italian in me, but it’s like Catenaccio with style right now and it has me smiling like a fat kid with a lot of cake.
MOTM was Capoue. I cannot express how much I like this guy running the show in midfield. An absolute monster in the tackle with 6 successful haymakers and attempted a team high 63 passes, completing 90% of them. Not to mention his 2 dribbles past opposition and 4 interceptions. Basically, he was on Swansea and Michu like white on rice on a paper plate with a glass of milk in a snowstorm.
Special praise for Andros Townsend as he constantly made himself a thorn in the side of Michael Laudrup’s men and was beating Ben Davies all afternoon like he stole something. Won a dubious penalty in the second half but was denied a clear penalty in the first so I guess it was even in the end. Paulinho and Chaldi, as well as Bobby Soldier played well, and to be honest, I can’t really single anyone out for having a poor match. To be fair to Swansea, they never really had a chance from the get-go, it was one way traffic and a deserved win.
Georgia Comes to the Lane
This Thursday, we entertain the Georgian champs, Dinamo Tbilisi, in the return leg of our Europa League playoff for entry to the group stages of the competition. Last week, we blitzed the Eastern European side to the tune of 5 unanswered goals which rendered the return leg a complete formality. I expect to see plenty of our youth squad in the starting 11 including the likes of Tom Carroll, Shaq Coulthirst and Kenneth McEvoy as well as Lewis Holtby and Zeki Fryers. We should still win as AVB hates losing, but it will likely not be a thrashing. Regardless, we have one foot in the group stages and I’m sure the other foot will be on its way shortly. And no, THAT Georgia is still not on my mind.
Transfer Madness
You even had that girlfriend who wanted to leave, messed around a lil bit, and then came back to you with apologies and how she never should have left? Yup, that is exactly how I am feeling about this whole Gareth Bale saga. Over the weekend, it was reported that the final details needed to be put on the transfer and Bale would be presented to the Bernabéu today or tomorrow. Even respected journalists such as Guillem Balague tweeted that the deal is 99% done, yet post match AVB stated that he expected Bale back in training Tuesday. Now we are receiving news that another club is interested in Bale. It’s like the hokey-pokey, one day he’s off, the next he’s back. Levy is a smart business man and I am sure he has leaked news that another club is interested to get Madrid sweating and willing to spend more than they want to on the Welsh wonder, which I really do like as Madrid have been completely disrespectful in the whole pursuit of Bale so it serves them right. Definitely a transfer deadline day deal, if any.
Elsewhere across Europe, Erik Lamela is flying into London and we need to keep him locked up and take his phone, as well as his agent’s, to keep a specific classless club built on Russian oil money from stealing him. Don’t let him leave Enfield until that contract is signed! All jokes aside, it looks likely that Erik will be announced as a Spurs player later this week. And he really is good so I am sure the WHL faithful will enjoy watching him play.
The Vlad Chiricheş deal seems to be coming to an end as their general manager, not the owner who is in jail, has revealed that a deal has been struck and it is only a matter of time before it is finalized. This is a good deal for us as he reminds me of a right-footed Jan, capable of starting attacks from the back and pushing forward, skipping past defenders while opening up space for his teammates. Good lad for relatively cheap money.
Another day, another link with Christian Eriksen. The kid is class, we get it, I just don’t see where he would fit in. Holtby is returning to fitness and capable of being that creative player, as is Carroll, therefore, I don’t see the need for him. Yes, he is a great player, one of the better playmakers in Europe but we do not need him for our system. Now if he could play left back…..

Derby Day with the Scum
Less than a week from today, Spurs will be traveling down Seven Sisters Road for our annual visit to the enormous, yet mostly quiet Emirates Stadium where we will face off against our hated rivals, Arsenal. Both clubs have started the season well, ours a little better with two wins but they can boast that they have scored from open play in the league. While that is true, it is only a matter of time before we really start banging them in for fun. Let’s hope that day is this coming Sunday. We should be confident of getting a result as we have been dominant in the midfield and can easily muscle them around in their own house, but as this is a derby, no one can really predict how it will play out. I’m hoping for a win, but a draw would be favorable for us more than them as shared points or all 3 to Tottenham would give us a psychological edge and lead to more fans calling for Arsene’s head.
So here is to the upcoming few days. Strap yourselves in people, it’s gonna be a wild and crazy ride! Thanks for reading! COYS!!!!
