ENGLAND STAR in Drugs Scandal, Dortmund Tried to Poach Eriksen, Brazil Hit Socceroos for six and Holtby Relishes Competition for places.

England Star in Drugs Scandal:

England international, Kyle Walker, was spotted inhaling nitrous oxide with friends at a party in Sheffield whilst onlookers took photographs.

Walker spared no expense as he celebrated a friend’s birthday with a regular flow of champagne mixed with the nitrous oxide - also know as “laughing gas”.

A source at the club said:

More and more canisters of laughing gas started appearing. Kyle and his pals were getting well carried away with them. He didn’t mind one bit that people were taking pictures.”

Walker is seen as the England starting right back and any negative publicity could hamper his future involvement in the international setup.

Last night Kyle told the Sunday Mirror:

I have now been made aware of the health risks associated with this practise and accept that my actions were of poor judgement. I hope this will in no way influence or encourage others into putting their own health at risk.”

Nitrous oxide is perfectly legal and as with all drugs there is a health risk when taken in large amounts. When a professional footballer indulges in such substances publicly, people are left with little option but to draw negative conclusions.

Dortmund Tried to Poach Eriksen:

Christian Eriksen was subject to enquiries from German side, Borussia Dortmund, before he moved to the Premier League, although Spurs were always his first choice.

The Danish midfield dynamo signed for Spurs in an £11.5 million before last weeks deadline, however he revealed that there were others sniffing around.

Eriksen told Danish newspaper BT:

Dortmund were interested, and they approached me,”

I guess that they have contacted all the candidates they had, and I was one of many.”

They were there, and there was a phone call from them. But it’s a long time ago and a lot has happened since.”

Eriksen’s creativity will surely be an asset to Tottenham as they challenge for a top four place or even more considering their activity in this summer’s transfer window.

Brazil Hit Socceroos for six:

Paulinho continued to star for the samba boys as they toppled the Socceroos for six in a one way encounter at the Brazilian capital.

The midfielder had two first half attempts thwarted by Aussie goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and was involved in the build-up to Brazil’s second and fourth goals.

He wrestled the ball from the opposition in robust fashion which allowed Bernard to provide Jo with a superb cross to convert and make it 2 – 0.

Paulinho also contributed to the fourth goal as he rolled the ball into Dante’s path, who in turn crossed for Ramires to finish and make it 4 – 0.

The box to box Brazilian was withdrawn just after the hour for Hernanes with the job done and he will be looking to replicate this form in the Premier League, once international week is over.

Holtby Relishes Competition for places:

Lewis Holtby has welcomed the new competition for places at Tottenham following their record summer spending spree.

The German Under – 21 international, signed from Schalke last January, relishes the chance to test himself against the new additions like Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Nacer Chadli, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela.

Holtby showed his impressive attitude when he spoke to sky sports:

I am very pleased to be in this squad,”

You need a big squad if you want to challenge for trophies and be strong in every competition.”

To be part of a big squad, it just makes your game better.”

Holtby, 22, impressed in his only appearance for the club this season so far as he scored a decent goal in Spurs' 3-0 win over Dinamo Tiblisi in the Europa League.

Sporting To Protect English Investment:

Sporting Lisbon are set to extend the contract of a young English talent in order to fend off Spurs interest in a January.

Eric Dier, 19, is apparently a long term target of Andre Villas Boas as he looks to use his knowledge of young talent emerging from the Portuguese league.

Sporting will look to extend Dier’s contract to include a €7.5 million buyout clause intended to protect their investment in the young Englishman.
